Nashville, TN (September 24, 2008) - Congratulations to Skyline Medical Center Emergency Department Nurses who were awarded Nashville Business Journal's Health Care Heroes Award in the Nurses Category on September 19th during a special luncheon in their honor at the Renaissance Hotel.

The nurses were honored for their extraordinary devotion that saved the life of 2 year old Erik Taylor Jackson earlier this year. The little boy had no heartbeat or any other signs of life when he was pulled from a water well, into which he had accidentally tumbled head first. When the ambulance arrived at Skyline, he was clinically dead. "This was a team effort," says Barnett. Refusing to let such a young life slip away, Barnett, Gibbs, Madole and Swann, along with respiratory therapists and the watchful eye of Suzanne Smith, M.D. the attending physician, performed CPR for a full 90 minutes until Erik's heart at last started beating again.

Swann says Erik received excellent medical care that day, but there was more to his survival. "There had to be a higher power," she said. "He's a miracle child."
