NASHVILLE, Tenn.–  TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center is the recipients of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Center on Cancer Commission’s (CoC) Outstanding Achievement Awards (OAA) for 2011.  One hundred six accredited and newly accredited cancer programs received the prestigious award, which recognizes programs around the nation that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.

“Receiving this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the cancer programs at TriStar Southern HIlls put into their daily jobs,” said Jon Connor, associate director of operations for the TriStar Sarah Cannon Cancer Services.  “By providing our cancer patients with state-of-the-art diagnostic tests and the latest treatment modalities, as well as by providing them with treatment and medical care close to home, we are delivering the best quality care possible – and most importantly – giving them hope.”

Facilities are permitted to be surveyed by the CoC every three years, meaning other TriStar hospitals are eligible for the survey when they reach their three-year mark.

Outstanding Achievement Awards are granted after an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor determines if facilities demonstrate a Commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program within six areas of activity including: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical management, research, community outreach and quality improvement.  Facilities must also receive compliance rating for 29 other standards in order to be eligible for an OAA.
