RELAY FOR LIFE FEATURES LOCAL MUSIC, FOOD, AND FAMILY FUN ON SUMMIT MEDICAL CENTER CAMPUS

The Donelson-Hermitage Relay for Life is celebrating its 10th year of fighting cancer in our community. For the 10th year celebration, Relay will feature local music, food, bouncy houses for the kids, rock climbing, and much more. The Donelson Hermitage Relay For Life Celebration will take place on June 5 and 6 from 7p.m. to 7a.m. Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for the fight against cancer.

SHOP FOR A CAUSE AT SUMMIT MEDICAL CENTER

Take some time to shop for a good cause this week. On Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29, Summit Medical Center will host two fundraisers that will benefit Relay for Life and the Summit Employee Benevolence Fund.

SUMMIT HOLDS LUNCH AND LEARN ON KNEE PAIN

Knee pain is the most common musculoskeletal complaint for which people seek medical care each year. In fact, an estimated 25-37% of patients surveyed over the age of 50 report significant knee pain in the last 12 months. Unfortunately, less that one third will seek medical care for this problem. The resulting impact on productivity, health and overall quality of life are immeasurable, and for the most part unnecessary. Dr. Christopher Cook, an orthopedic surgeon on staff at Summit Medical Center, will hold a lunch and learn seminar on knee pain on Wednesday, June 10 at 11:30 a.m. in classrooms C and D on the ground floor of the hospital.

More than 50 million Americans have high blood pressure. If left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to heart attack, stroke, and a number of other life-threatening conditions. Most people do not even feel symptoms when their blood pressure is high, which is why hypertension is called the “silent killer.” In this case, what you don’t know can hurt you. Elevated blood pressure can lead to a greatly increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and many other serious illnesses. Along with high cholesterol and smoking, hypertension is one of the primary causes of atherosclerosis. In turn, atherosclerosis causes heart attacks, strokes, and other diseases of impaired circulation.

Southern Hills Medical Center Appoints YMCA VP to Board of Trustees

Southern Hills Medical Center has appointed Robert W. Gray, Jr. to its board of trustees. Gray is the group vice president for the YMCA of Middle Tennessee in Nashville where he is responsible for six YMCA operations and all new YMCA development east of Nashville.

Centennial Medical Center Nurses Give Back During Nurses Week

During Nurses Week (May 6-12), Centennial Medical Center nurses hosted a ‘giving back’ food drive, which raised more than $3,700 and collected more than 1 ton of canned and non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank.
