While magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology has been available for more than two decades, imaging the heart has been a challenge because the heart is moving and images come out blurry. With the addition of a first-of-its-kind open bore 1.5 Tesla MRI system at Centennial Medical Center, physicians can now obtain amazingly clear and detailed images of the beating heart in real time.

Halloween and Food Allergy Safety

While Halloween can be a fun holiday for children who Trick-or-Treat, the night can indeed be a scary experience for any of the three million youth who suffer from food allergy. Experts estimate that food allergy occurs in six to eight percent of children four years of age or under, and in four percent of adults. In recent years, it was reported that an estimated 29,000 people go to US emergency rooms each year as a result of allergic reactions to food.

SUMMIT HAS FIRST CERTIFIED SLEEP SPECIALISTS IN TENNESSEE

Summit Medical Center is proud to announce that two staff members in the Summit Center for Sleep Health are certified as Sleep Disorder Specialists by The National Board of Respiratory Care. Helen Lois Stanfill, RRT-SDS, CPFT, RPSGT and Donna Lovitt RRT-SDS, RPSGT recently chose to participate in a worldwide program on sleep disorders and therapeutic intervention. They are the first two specialists in Tennessee to be certified Sleep Disorder Specialists. Both Stanfill and Lovitt are registered Polysomnographic Technologists and Registered Respiratory Therapists.
