Do you know the signs of a stroke?
Stroke is the fourth-leading cause of death in the U.S. and the number-one cause of adult disability. Being able to recognize stroke symptoms is the best way to prevent permanent brain damage.
These are the most common warning signs of a stroke:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden severe headache
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
A stroke is a major medical emergency. Each minute counts. If you suspect someone is having a stroke, dial 911 immediately.
