TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center has achieved Level III Trauma Center designation by the State of Tennessee Department of Health through the Office of Emergency Services. The designation completes a multiyear process of preparation by the hospital and an extensive on-site survey by the state. One of the most important benefits for critically injured patients transported to TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center is quicker access to a higher level of care or expedited transfer if necessary.
"The designation is a milestone achievement for the hospital and staff," said Lou Caputo, CEO of TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center. "It is a testament to our facility's commitment to providing and investing in the highest quality health care to the expanding communities we serve."
The designation as a Level III Trauma Center is the result of many hours of hard work and coordination among multiple members of TriStar StoneCrest's care team. TriStar StoneCrest Trauma Program Medical Director, Dr. Willie Melvin and the hospital's trauma team spent months designing and refining systems and procedures to ensure a top caliber trauma program. Strict criteria must be met in order to receive trauma center designation, which include meeting specific requirements pertaining to hospital staffing, availability of physician subspecialists, response times, education, training and an increased focus on quality improvement; all supported by outreach and community education.
"The designation is the result of many hours of hard work and coordination among multiple members of our hospital care team," said Heather Thompson, RN, Trauma Program Director at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center. "This hard work was verified recently when the state survey was conducted and TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center was awarded full program designation. We want the message to be clear that minutes matter in the care of a trauma patient, and we are ready to provide this service at a moment's notice."
