Schedule a Screening Mammogram

What is a mammography?

A mammogram is a digital X-ray of your breasts. Radiologists are able to look at the test results and determine if there is anything abnormal in the breast. If something abnormal is found, a follow-up appointment is scheduled for further analysis. Additional tests may be performed, including another mammogram, an MRI, ultrasound or biopsy.

The radiologists at TriStar Health also use tomosynthesis, which is a 3D mammography. During a tomosynthesis mammography, multiple images are taken from a variety of angles, generating a 3-D reconstruction of the breast. This higher quality image allows radiologists to more accurately diagnose potential abnormalities.

Typically, women are advised by their primary care doctors to get annual screening mammograms starting at age 40.
