Inpatient mental health program
Our adult treatment program (ATP) provides crisis stabilization and intensive treatment for both voluntary and involuntary patients 18 years old and older. This behavioral health treatment equips patients with the tools needed to maintain safety and stability in the hospital and after discharge. We also assist with setting up appropriate outpatient care to continue the recovery process beyond hospitalization
Conditions we treat include:
- Bipolar disorder
- Substance abuse
Our mental health treatment approach
We use treatments grounded in researched theories and evidenced-based techniques to improve mental health symptoms. Our group therapy sessions are structured with a mix of psychoeducational, process-oriented, expressive and role-play formats. Treatment approaches include:
Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) - CBT helps you understand the relationship between your thoughts, behaviors and emotions. Together, we will examine automatic thought processes and develop flexible and realistic thought patterns and problem-solving strategies.
Alternative therapy - This incorporates art, music and recreational therapy as well as mindfulness and yoga to help you process and cope with difficult emotions and thoughts.
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) - ACT approaches are centered on six core dimensions: cognitive diffusion, acceptance, values, self-as-context, committed action and contact with the present moment.
Motivational interviewing (MI) - MI methods help resolve ambivalence and facilitate intrinsic motivation in order to change behavior.
Matrix model - For the co-occurring substance abuse program, clinicians incorporate the matrix model to help individuals learn early recovery and relapse prevention skills.
Behavior activation (BA) - Clinicians help clients recognize and modify avoidance behaviors by increasing healthy alternative behaviors.
Internal family systems (IFS) - Clinicians help clients address different aspects of themselves to create internal peace.
Recreational Therapy – Clinicians lead patients in various relaxation and mindfulness techniques that show patients how to regulate the physical effects of stress including expressive art activities, cognitive stimulating games, walking, chair exercises, yoga and pet therapy.
The treatment mall approach
We use a "treatment mall" approach to care. It offers group therapy and one-on-one interventions during your hospitalization. The goal is to help you build the life skills needed for recovery. Each day, you are given a schedule of assigned groups that align with your treatment plan. By individualizing your treatment, you learn healthy coping skills specific to your own needs.
We provide two distinct treatment mall approaches: one for adult mental health and one for senior mental health. Groups are divided into different focuses, or "tracks," that address topics and coping skills specific to different diagnoses and life situations. These tracks include:
- Thought disorders
- Mood disorders
- Chemical dependency
- Grief and loss
Benefits of the treatment mall
With the treatment mall approach, patients leave their units for programming each day and attend groups in different areas throughout the building, including classrooms, an indoor horticulture center, an outdoor courtyard and gymnasium. This approach helps promote a sense of personal motivation, agency and ownership of the treatment experience, ultimately leading to a more successful recovery.
Dual treatment program
The dual treatment program (DTP) is for dual diagnosis patients. It meets the physical, psychological, educational and social needs of individuals who have a mental illness as well as evidence or history of addiction and substance abuse. Treatment during hospitalization focuses on helping you medically detox and develop and maintain sobriety while managing behavioral health issues.
The program’s multidisciplinary team includes a chemical dependency specialist who leads psychoeducational groups in the treatment mall. These groups address issues specific to substance abuse and addiction. Additionally, we help you find follow-up care, including outpatient addiction treatment programs and medication-assisted treatment.
