Cardiovascular care in Hendersonville, Tennessee

Treatment at an American College of Cardiology (ACC) Chest Pain Center gives you an increased survival rate in a cardiac emergency. This is why TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center is proud to be Sumner County's only Accredited Chest Pain Center for more than a decade.

This accreditation means our emergency room (ER) is equipped to rapidly diagnose and treat chest pain. For example, our teams are trained to recognize the signs of a life-threatening cardiac emergency and get you the right treatment as quickly as possible.

Emergency heart care

To enhance our cardiology services, we partner with our local emergency medical services (EMS) teams. In the ambulance, they can send us your heart tests with 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKGs), allowing us to activate our cardiac catheterization (cath) lab and get our experts in our emergency room ready to provide treatment immediately upon your arrival.

Innovative care for cardiac arrest

As an added safety and care measure, we also have the option to use mobile therapeutic hypothermia units. These allow us to implement therapeutic hypothermia as a treatment for people experiencing cardiac arrest. Once the heart begins beating again, healthcare providers use these cooling devices to lower your body temperature for a short time. It can be a good choice if the heart restarted but a patient is still not responsive. The lower temperatures help lessen inflammation on the brain and can reduce further injury.

Heart attack

Heart attacks typically have "beginnings," or early warning signs and symptoms. These beginnings occur in more than half of all heart attack patients. Most importantly, these symptoms can be treated before permanent damage occurs - if recognized quickly. Some beginnings or symptoms include:

  • Chest discomfort
  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • Shoulder or arm pain and weakness

These signs may occur hours or even weeks before a heart attack occurs. If you notice any of them, it is important to call 911 immediately.

Cardiac diagnostics

TriStar Hendersonville was among the first set of hospitals in the country to use cardiac scanning technology to view plaque build-up in the heart. Our heart specialists do this using computed tomography (CT) scans with incredible speed. With this technology, patients receive a quicker diagnosis and can avoid more invasive testing.

We also offer cardiac calcium scoring to help detect buildup in the coronary arteries.

Cardiac cath lab

The cardiac cath lab, conveniently located near the ER, consists of a large suite with state-of-the-equipment and technology. Our lab services involve the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease in addition to interventional treatments, such as angioplasty, stenting and pacemakers.

Cardiovascular surgery

Our experienced cardiovascular surgeons perform a variety of surgical procedures to treat heart and vascular diseases and conditions, such as abdominal aneurysms, carotid artery disease and peripheral vascular disease.

Cardiac rehabilitation

Much like physical therapy after an injury, your heart needs to recovery after heart surgery or a heart attack. With our cardiac rehabilitation program, you have access to supervised exercise sessions and personalized treatment plans designed to help rebuild your cardiac strength.
