Types of medical lab tests we offer

Our technicians perform a variety of laboratory tests, including:

Bone density screening

Bone density screening is a test that uses X-rays to evaluate bone mineral density. This test is used to determine the chances of developing osteoporosis or experiencing a fracture. It may also help determine your risk of breast cancer. You are more at risk for both if you:

  • Are 65 years old or older
  • Are postmenopausal
  • Are a current smoker
  • Have a thin or small frame
  • Are of Caucasian or Asian descent
  • Use certain medications (such as steroids)
  • Live a dormant or sedentary lifestyle
  • Have low estrogen levels
  • Have hyperthyroidism
  • Are deficient in Vitamin D
  • Have a family history of osteoporosis

Once the report for the bone density scan has been completed by the radiologist, a copy is sent to your physician.

Cardiac calcium scoring

Cardiac scoring is a pain-free, noninvasive heart health procedure designed to detect plaque in your coronary arteries. The amount of plaque within the arteries determines your coronary calcium score.

You might be a candidate for a cardiac scoring test if you:

  • Are a man who is 45 years old or older
  • Are a woman who is 55 years old or older
  • Currently smoke
  • Have diabetes
  • Have a family history of stroke or heart disease
  • Are overweight by more than 10 pounds
  • Have high cholesterol or high blood pressure
  • Live a sedentary lifestyle
  • Are concerned about your risk for heart disease

The score, based on age, gender and other risk factors, is a strong indicator of your risk for coronary artery disease. Your physician can use this information to recommend the appropriate treatment, including diet and lifestyle changes, medication and/or further testing.

The cardiac calcium screening test is priced at $69, which includes cardiologist interpretation.

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a process that allows physicians to better examine the body's passageways, including the esophagus, stomach and colon. Through a piece of equipment known as an endoscope, the doctor can look directly at specific areas to better evaluate and detect problems.

We offer a variety of standard and advanced endoscopy procedures, including:

  • Stent placements
  • Cryotherapy
  • Fine needle aspiration (FNA)
  • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy placement
  • Direct J-tube placement
  • Manometry with impedance
  • Endoscopic ultrasound

Stereotactic breast biopsy

A stereotactic breast biopsy is a needle biopsy which uses mammographic images for guidance. It is most commonly used in the case of microcalcifications (small calcium deposits in the breast) or if the lesion is best viewed mammographically.

During this test, samples are taken and examined to determine whether or not the patient needs an additional mammogram screening or surgery.
