Minimally invasive and surgery
As part of our commitment to patient safety, we use minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible. Some procedures involving the abdomen and pelvis can be performed laparoscopically, which involves using a tiny camera inserted into the body that allows the surgeon to see into the body without needing to make large incisions.
During robotic surgery, a procedure is performed by equipment controlled by a highly trained surgeon sitting at a nearby console. The surgeon is in control 100 percent of the time, but this technology adapts to changes in patient position, providing greater precision and efficiency to decrease operating times. In addition, the enhanced dexterity allows doctors to make fewer and even smaller incisions that were not previously possible and allows surgeries to be performed with increased accuracy tailored to the anatomy of each individual patient.
The smaller incisions made during minimally invasive surgery results in many benefits for our patients, including:
- Less scarring
- Less pain
- Reduced blood loss
- Quicker recovery time
