Wound treatment options
We believe personalized plans make all the difference when it comes to having a successful recovery from a chronic wound. You and your caregiver will be educated in proper techniques in dressing changes, wound management, protection and prevention. Treatment options may include:
- Bioengineered skin grafting
- Compression therapy
- Hyperbaric therapy
- Infection control
- Lymphedema therapy
- Negative pressure wound therapy
- Ostomy care and education
During hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while under pressure in the hyperbaric chamber, causing oxygen to saturate the blood and plasma levels. This high-level oxygen may be delivered four times further into diseased tissue than by breathing air alone.
Our wound care specialists use HBOT to treat a variety of wounds and wound-related conditions, including:
- Acute traumatic injury
- Crush injuries
- Diabetic wounds of the lower extremity
- Necrotizing soft tissue infections
- Radiation tissue injury
- Skin grafts and flaps
What to expect during HBOT treatment
Before treatment, you will change into provided cotton garments. For safety reasons, no other clothing may be worn inside of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Once you are comfortably positioned inside the chamber, the pressure will gradually be increased and the temperature will temporarily rise.
You may experience fullness in your ears because of the increased pressure. Our technicians will instruct you on ways to help clear the pressure and relieve any discomfort.
Most treatment sessions last approximately two hours. While undergoing treatment, you may watch TV, relax or even sleep.
